One-Day Seminars for Ministers AlabamaCBF sponsors at least two events a year that bring ministers together for learning, fellowship and encouragement. Past events have helped ministers with such topics as sermon planning and understanding post-modern cultural shifts. These seminars typically take place in February/March and September. Peer Learning Groups Peer learning groups are small communities of CBF ministers who meet monthly to provide opportuntities for worship, spiritual growth, study, discussion of ministry related issues and fellowship. Groups are small, generally with 10-14 members, and led by a convener with support from the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. The convener and group members determine the focus of each month's gathering. The Fellowship provides the groups with suggested resources related to promoting pastoral excellence and congregational health. There are currently more than 80 peer learning groups spread through the central and eastern United States. Reference and Referral Churches are often in need of good recommendations for openings on their staff. AlabamaCBF, with assistance from National CBF's LeaderConnect system, has helped to place pastors, associate pastors, youth ministers and children's ministers in churches in Alabama and beyond. Additionally, clergy sometimes find themselves in a place where a move is needed or a call is sensed to find another place of service. AlabamaCBF helps to provide competent reference and referral with a desire to help congregations and clergy navigate this change. In 2009, AlabamaCBF launched a weekly e-newsletter on Mondays than includes an inspirational word and resources to help ministers to be as equipped as possible for the week of ministry ahead. Resources from National CBF and other sources are promoted with helpful links to access more information.
